As a technical person, I enjoy learning new computer languages, techniques, etc. Whilst setting up WhiteStar Systems it became necessary to re-skill in certain areas. I chose to do this by reading books then trying it out myself, rather than going on stupidly expensive courses.
I have discovered a series of books that work perfectly for me - I have read them and retained much of the knowledge. It is quite amazing. These books are the 'Head First' series by O'Reilly publishing. They are not your run-of-the-mill computer text books. They are designed to help you learn quite technical stuff, but in a way that is fun, easy to digest and which actually sticks in your head.
For example, I had used some HTML/CSS in the past, but never really understood what I was doing. I muddled along with trial and error to get the results that I wanted. Then I read 'Head First HTML With CSS & XHTML'. It suddenly became clear what I needed to do and how it all hung together.
I have now read a number of these and I can honestly say that they have been a revelation. Try them for yourself and let me know what you think.
